SCADA and Telemetry

The Oil, Gas, Water and Electricity industries have a large dependence on Radio Telemetry, with most utility companies now using some form of SCADA system to capture remote information for fast and efficient processing at a central location.

A reliable radio link is a very important part of any SCADA system, from a simple remote meter reading application, to oil tank monitoring at remote pumping stations, or the control of a high voltage power grid via a network of radios.

Products designed by RFDataTech have been used successfully in thousands of applications around the world, where prolonged, reliable communications in sometimes harsh and hazardous conditions are essential for the management of resources.

RFDataTech has a range of advanced Radio Telemetry products for UK MPT1411/VNS2111 SCADA applications.

Benefits include:-

  • Time saving and the resulting reduced staff costs associated with the collection of data and system maintenance.
  • The ultra low power requirements of RF DataTech products like the ART Series, mean that smaller batteries and solar panels can be used where mains power is not available.
  • Flexibility to move equipment from site to site, as and when required.
  • Over the air programming/re-programming, radio diagnostics and re-alignment can be used to keep mission critical information flowing, with the minimum of maintenance costs.

Fire, Security and Public Safety

Radio links are ever increasingly being used in Fire, Security and public safety systems where short range or long range data transfers are required without cables or wires.

Applications include:-

  • Communicating alarms back to a central panel from remote sensors
  • Communicating secure data from alarm panels to central stations
  • Alerting security personnel within localised areas of alarms and situations that need an immediate response.

The staff at RFDataTech have successfully integrated radio products into various alarm systems and have designed bespoke, fault tolerant, radio based Alarm/Fire systems for monitoring large complexes, sometimes over many miles.

The use of hard wiring can be a limiting factor for any alarm system in terms of both practicality and cost.

Benefits of using Radio include:-

  • Retrofitting additional equipment into a completed system becomes easy.
  • The cost of radio compared with hard cabling is very advantageous.
  • With fault tolerant scanning system the links can be checked every few seconds.
  • For remote locations without easy telephone access radio can sometimes be the only option.
